All TE conference are organised under the auspices of the International Society of Transdisciplinary Engineering (ISTE).

ISTE 29th International Conference on Transdisciplinary Engineering (TE2022)

TE2022 was organised by MIT in Boston, USA. TE2022 gave participants the opportunity to come together as a community on a face-to-face basis once again and reignited the passion everyone shares for Transdisciplinary Engineering. The TE2022 conference has been a success, thanks to the local organisation and technical staff, and also the ISTE members and delegates.

The TE2021 conference theme has been “The Future of Engineering“. With 84 papers for oral presentation, 3 panels, 6 keynotes, 4 workshops, several special sessions, and technical and social visits the programme has been filled with valuable insights, experiences and activities.

ISTE 28th International Conference on Transdisciplinary Engineering (TE2021)

TE2021 was organised by the University of Bath in the UK. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the conference was again organised in a virtual way. The Warsaw experiences have been a learning experience. The TE2021 conference has been a success, thanks to the local organisation and technical staff, and also the ISTE members and delegates.

The TE2021 conference theme has been “The Application of Transdisciplinary Engineering for Resilience and Responding to System Disruptions“.

If the events of 2020 have taught us anything it is that changes within a system will cause disruptions and that these disruptions can have a major impact on society. But it is not only abrupt events such as pandemics or natural disaster which can cause disturbance. Digitalisation, which has been playing out over a number of years, has the potential to radically change engineering research and practice: how it is conducted, the skills required, and the solutions produced.

ISTE 27th International Conference on Transdisciplinary Engineering (TE2020)

TE2020 was organised by Warsaw University of Technology. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the conference was organised in a virtual way. This has been quite a challenge and required a lot of effort of, especially, the people in Warsaw, but also of ISTE. It has been a success!

The TE2020 conference theme has been “Transdisciplinary Engineering for Complex Sociotechnical Systems in Perspective of Real-life Application”. The conference has focused on the multidisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity that drive future innovation in the context of Intelligent Factories and Industry 4.0. The concept of Industry 4.0 outlines the vision of a smart factory characterised by the complete networking of all production parts and processes: real time control via cyber-physical systems, increased use of robots, intelligent and adaptable production systems, which should contribute to greater productivity through resource efficiency. Convergence of production and interaction, work and communication requires increasingly transdisciplinary competencies for staying economically competitive. In addition to expert knowledge, flexibility, creativity and innovation, these are critical success factors for companies and their employees. However, Industry 4.0 is not just about machines but people. The Internet of things, data and services are merging the physical and digital world. This is where knowledge-based services have a huge task ahead. People are the bearers of this knowledge and the drivers of innovation.

ISTE 26th International Conference on Transdisciplinary Engineering (TE2019)

The TE2019 conference took place in the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, The University of Tokyo (Kashiwa Campus, Tokyo, Japan).

The TE2019 conference theme was:

“Transdisciplinary Engineering for Complex Sociotechnical Systems”.

Industry and society are complex sociotechnical systems. Due to this complex nature, effective problem solving requires collaboration across disciplines, including technical, social science, business, environmental and other disciplines. Moreover, collaboration between academia and practitioners is needed to develop acceptable solutions. Many engineering problems, in particular, require such an approach; a Transdisciplinary Engineering (TE) approach.

The conference focused on the emerging performance of the deployment of new technology in a complex systems context.
